26A- Celebrating Failure
1. A time I failed in this class was just recently. I did not complete assignment 20A – Growing Your Social Capital. I was feeling overwhelmed with the assignment and anxious about contacting professionals about a startup that I don’t necessarily have intentions of starting myself. Therefore, I let time and anxiety get the best of me and did not complete the assignment.
2. I learned that if you are feeling overwhelmed, ask for help. Also, don’t feel intimidated in this class. The worst outcome that could happen by contacting these professionals would be they weren’t interested in speaking or they wouldn’t answer back an email.
3. Failure is very hard. I don’t handle failure well. Emotionally, it makes me even more anxious than I would have been if I had just done the assignment. This class has taught me as an entrepreneur you have to be willing to accept no many times, but obviously it doesn’t mean you failed. I am not a person who loves to take risks, but if I had to do assignment 20A again, I would do it.
Hey Danielle!
ReplyDeleteThis is one assignment that I also felt like skipping because of the fear of rejection. I agree that the worst outcome would be a 'no', but that's enough to scare me. I was able to get over that fear and complete the assignment, but I definitely think I could have done a better job had I not had the fear of rejection. It's a good sign that you would do the assignment given another chance! Great job on this post!
Hi Danielle,
ReplyDeleteI was nervous when reaching out to people for that assignment as well. When I'm thinking about this app that I am creating, I don't see myself starting it tomorrow so reaching out to professionals in the community was nerve wracking. However, I learnt that these people are willing to listen and give positive feedback to us. I agree that asking for help and not feeling intimidated in this class is key because we are all working together and helping each other out with these peer reviews.
Hi Danielle! I’m glad you were able to get through your struggle with this class. I understand where you’re coming from though. This class can sometimes be too much and a lot to handle on due dates. But just take it one step at a time and breath. I wish you the best going further in this class!
ReplyDeleteHi Danielle! I struggle with the same issue of getting anxiety from one mistake. I think the most important things you can do is realize that one mistake does not equal failure. That can lead to the downward spiral that you mentioned. You only need to recognize your mistake so that you simply avoid doing it again. Handling failure can be hard but sometimes having a positive outlook (such as not seeing it as failure) can also be helpful.
ReplyDeleteDanielle,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading and learning about how you have learned to grow from failure and defeat. I like how you discussed your emotions when failure comes. This can be a very important thing when trying to overcome failure. I also agree with what you said about not feeling intimidated from this class. If you need help or can't figure out how to do something, you should never hesitate to ask for help or try something on your own. Overall, nice job on this post.
